Chris Bennett (Heavy Haulage) Ltd quoted and were successful in winning a contract to transport a tunnel boring machine from Oldham to Farnworth near Bolton for J.Murphy & Sons Ltd.
The scheme was to enlarge an old railway tunnel to allow the electrification of the railway line between Manchester and Preston.
The machine was transported in sections, the heaviest piece being 52 tonnes, the move involved some parts of the machine to be transported at night. The sections were transported using one of our 8 x 4 heavy haulage tractor units combined with a low loader trailer.
The sections were loaded and unloaded by crane, while our most experienced drivers together with drivers’ mates ensured that the job was completed safely and securely.
