Strictly speaking, any abnormal load follows the following guidelines:

• Mass weight of over 44 Tonnes
• Width of over 2.9 metres
• Rigid length of more than 18.65 metres
• Axle load of more than 10 – 11.5 Tonnes dependent on whether it’s a driving or non-driving axle.

Compliance With Regulations

Each time an abnormal load is transported across the UK it’s a legal requirement to adhere to the government’s authorised weight regulations and the authorisation of special types of load. Chris Bennett prepares the route and all necessary documentation in order to apply to all local authorities as part of the planning process including notifying the Police, Highways & Bridge Authorities. We work with local authorities and police forces across the country, making sure that our vehicles cause as little inconvenience to other road users as possible.

Experience & Personnel

At Chris Bennett, we are able to move all manner of abnormal loads due to our vast experience in the sector as both a team and as individuals. All of our trailer and vehicle hires come with experienced drivers to provide the best abnormal load delivery you can find. Alongside our abnormal load haulage, we use escort vehicles which are fully equipped in accordance with present legislation, to aid the smooth running of your transportation project. Behind the scenes, our friendly transport planning team will deal with the whole package, including liaising with the police and local authorities, submitting movement orders and if necessary we can provide a route survey.

Specialist Vehicles

All abnormal loads can generally be transported using one of our low or semi-low loader trailers – all of which have rear steer axles, or one of our low loader vehicles with remote control steering to assist with access to more difficult sites. Our semi low loaders can carry loads of up to 75 tonnes and 96ft in length. Similarly, our low loader vehicles are extendable up to 40ft within the bed of the trailer but with an additional payload of 95 tonnes.
